Classic cave combat. Now online.
An unofficial fan remake of Tunnels of the Underworld (2002) by GigaMess. Not affiliated with the original developers.
On a repair pad, the menu key (on touch the WEAPONS button) opens the list of weapons, which can also show as a grid and says what each weapon and power does; the turn keys also step through them, and fire changes the power. Nothing fires on a pad.
In a room everyone picks a name, a color, a ship and a weapon, and the room's lead sets the map, the rules and how many bots join. A match starts when everyone is ready.
A map is one picture file (PNG) whose colors say what each pixel is, with its name and settings inside. You can also draw one in any paint program: the colors are listed in the game's maps/README.md.
Any map that comes with the game, or one of yours, can also be the start: Edit a copy, on the Maps page.
How far you push the stick before the engine fires. The dashed circle around the stick shows it.
How fast the ship turns while you hold the stick to the side. 100 % is TOU's own speed.
Water that flows when you blast its banks open, as in TOU. Turning it on or off starts the run over.
For playing alone; online matches use TOU's defaults.
Every ship carries the basic gun, which a bonus box can make stronger, and one special weapon. Change the special on a repair pad.
TOU Rebuilt is an unofficial fan remake of Tunnels of the Underworld (TOU), the cave-flying game GigaMess made in 2002: Hannu Kankaanpää wrote the code and drew the graphics and levels, and Kimmo Palander made the music and the sounds. The original is free, and still a great game.
It is not made or endorsed by them. Its flight, its weapons and its rules were rebuilt from how the original plays, down to its numbers. The code, the maps, the pictures and the sounds here are our own; none of the original's graphics, music or levels are used.
What's new: online play, which the original's author thought "nearly impossible" with all those walls, turrets and troopers to keep in step. Every device runs the very same match from everyone's buttons.
